Technical Seminar
for DoD Suppliers
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
Thursday September 1, 2005
Columbus Convention Center - Columbus, Ohio
Productivity by RFID has partnered
with The National Defense Industrial Association
(NDIA), the Defense Acquisition University and other
elements of the Department of Defense,
members of defense industry, and a variety of RFID
vendors to present an RFID Seminar on Thursday
September 1, 2005. The full-day RFID seminar is
being presented immediately following the Land &
Maritime Supply Chains Business Conference &
Exhibition.
The National Defense Industrial
Association (NDIA) and the Defense Acquisition
University (DAU) are undertaking a broad campaign to
ensure that defense industry suppliers are aware of
their responsibilities associated with two recent
mandates issued from the OSD. It is estimated that
over 43,000 DoD suppliers are impacted by the recent
mandate for Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID). RFID Seminars
are being scheduled at various dates and venues
across the U.S. in an effort to ensure that defense
industry companies and their supply chains are aware
of the new requirements and the associated
implementation timelines.
Overview
Key 2004 Defense Department
initiatives that directly affect the defense and
aerospace industry include the
Policy for use of Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) within the Department of Defense.
The RFID strategy calls for taking
maximum advantage of the inherent life-cycle asset
management efficiencies that can be realized with
integration of RFID throughout DoD.
Leveraging this
technology will improve DoD's ability to get the
warfighter the right materiel, at the right time,
and in the right condition.
At this RFID Seminar, DoD
officials will explain the RFID policy
in detail. Defense industry representatives will
describe how they are implementing the newly
mandated procedures, identify the impacts of the new
policies to their business models and procedures,
discuss the challenges encountered and solutions
sought, and address the impacts of their
implementation strategy on their suppliers, large
and small. Marking and reading vendors will be
available to present technologies available on the
commercial marketplace that meet DoD requirements.
